Poly Students Participate in the Maryland Science Olympiad

Recently, a team of 15 students from Poly participated in the Maryland Science Olympiad (MSO) Regional Competition at Mt. Hebron High School in Ellicott City. Since October 2018, they have been working on 23 events focusing on Life, Personal, & Social Science; Earth & Space Science; Physical Science & Chemistry; Technology & Engineering; Inquiry & Nature of Science.

The journey started last year (2018) when they participated in this competition for the first time in more than a decade. They ranked in 12 out of the 23 events participated and were placed 6th place overall in our league. With that experience, new and returning members, Lead Teacher Ms. Ghosh (with support from two new teachers - Mr. Sanghvi and Ms. Matthews), help from JHU mentors, and a lot of enthusiasm, they prepared for the 2018-19 Regional competition. The Poly team ranked in 17 out of the 23 events this year, garnered 1st place in our league, 16th overall among 63 High School teams from the region, and finally MADE IT TO THE STATES!

There were 63 teams from Montgomery, Prince George's, Howard, Baltimore, Frederick County, and Baltimore City.

We all should be very proud of these following 15 students, representing the various programs at Poly.
