POLY STUDENTS CONTRIBUTE ORAL HISTORY

POLY STUDENTS CONTRIBUTE ORAL HISTORY On Wednesday evening, April 10, Dr Maureen O'Neill, Poly Library Media Specialist, traveled with students to the Maryland Historical Society to celebrate a yearlong effort by Baltimore City culture workers and students to collect and preserve stories about Baltimore city. Inspired by the Preserve the Baltimore Uprising Digital Archive, students learned about oral history and contributed their original works of art, video and research on a variety of topics related to community and identity. Dr. John Eugene, Mr Hassan Charleston, Mr Matt Adelberg and Ms Brenda Serpick's students participated throughout the year. UMBC and The Whiting Foundation provided funding for Professor Denise Meringolo to lead the collaboration that included other community partners and schools such as City College and Douglas High School, as well as providing funding for a variety of support materials. Special thanks to Poly English teacher, Dr Eugene, and Angie Brickhouse, Executive Director of the BPI Foundation, for attending Wednesday's event. Everyone is encouraged to visit the Baltimore Uprising's archive and contribute materials at https://baltimoreuprising2015.org
Statement from Director Williams on the Incident at Western on March 25, 2019.
Hello, this is Principal Williams. I wanted to make you aware that Western High School was evacuated today because they received a threat to their school building. Poly did not receive a threat and was not evacuated. At Western, police arrived quickly, searched the building, and confirmed there was no danger. Students then returned to school and their regular day continued. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at 410-396-7026. Thank you.
